AI, Dreaming & Imagination
AI, Dreaming and Imagination is a project supported by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung that explores how children think about, engage with, imagine, and shape conversations about Artificial Intelligence (AI). Co-developed with children, educators, community leaders, and facilitators through a series of workshops and focus groups in Delhi, Panaji, and Bengaluru, the project reimagines AI literacy as a process of thinking about AI through imagination. Rather than focusing on technical or academic understandings of AI, the project approaches AI literacy as a process of reflection, curiosity, and creative inquiry. As AI becomes a bigger part of everyday life, questions around privacy, digital rights, sustainability, and its impact on society are becoming increasingly vital. The project encourages children to engage with these questions through their own experiences, ideas, and imagination.
Grounded in co-creation and participatory design, the project invites children to reflect on how AI emerged in the past, how it influences their lives today, and how it may shape the future. Through imagination, storytelling, drawing, and discussion, children are encouraged to engage critically and creatively with AI, moving beyond technology itself to consider questions of fairness, safety, participation, and inclusion.
The project includes a facilitator’s guide for conducting hands-on workshops for children aged 8–14 years, as well as a creative zine that enables children to document their ideas, dreams, and aspirations for AI. Together, these resources create space for children to become active participants in imagining and building futures where their voices, interests, and experiences are at the centre of conversations about technology.
